Functional Testing

Functional testing gives us a clearer picture of what’s really going on in your body. Many people feel unwell even though their standard tests look “normal.” By looking at your blood, urine, stool, and environmental toxin patterns, we can see how your hormones, gut, energy systems, and detox pathways are working — or struggling. These insights help us create a plan that actually addresses the root causes of your symptoms, so you can start feeling more like yourself again.

Blood Testing Through PathLab & Awanui (NZ)

A thorough consultation will include us looking closely at the following blood tests. Most of these blood results are funded when ordered by your GP, or a specialist with the appropriate indications. However, Vitamin D, G6PD and a few others may require payments by patients.

Test Name Why We Look At It
Full Blood Count (FBC / CBC) Evaluates oxygen-carrying capacity, immune cell balance, and subtle signs of inflammation or chronic stress patterns.
Urea & Electrolytes (Renal Function) Assesses kidney function, hydration status, and acid–base balance — all essential for metabolic resilience.
Liver Function Tests (LFTs) Provides insight into detoxification capacity, bile flow, and overall metabolic burden.
Fasting Glucose Screens for early insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction long before diabetes develops.
HbA1c Reflects longer-term glucose regulation and metabolic stability.
Lipid Profile (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides) Evaluates cardiovascular risk patterns, metabolic syndrome, and inflammation-driven lipid changes.
Thyroid Panel (TSH, Free T4, Free T3 where appropriate) Central regulator of metabolism, energy, mood, and weight balance.
Thyroid Antibodies (Anti-TPO, Anti-Tg) Detects early autoimmune thyroid patterns before overt dysfunction appears.
Vitamin B12 Essential for energy production, methylation, neurological health, and cognitive clarity.
Folate Critical for DNA repair, methylation, cardiovascular health, and mood regulation.
Ferritin & Iron Studies Assesses iron stores and transport — crucial for energy, mood, and cognitive function.
Vitamin D Supports immune regulation, bone health, mood stability, and inflammatory balance.
C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

Marker of systemic inflammation and immune activation.

Homocysteine

Organic Acid Test NZD 422.-

The Organic Acids Test is a simple urine test that gives us insight into how your body is functioning at a deeper, cellular level. It helps uncover hidden imbalances that routine blood tests often miss — especially in people who feel unwell despite “normal” results. This is most common test that gives us great insights to get the ball rolling.

This test can highlight:

  • Nutrient deficiencies that may be affecting your energy, mood, or cognitive clarity

  • Gut imbalances, including bacterial or yeast overgrowth

  • Signs of oxidative stress and challenges with detoxification

  • How well your mitochondria — your cells’ energy producers — are working

  • Patterns related to neurotransmitters that influence sleep, focus, and emotional wellbeing

DUTCH Complete Hormone Test NZD 620.-

The DUTCH Complete is an advanced urine test that provides a detailed picture of your hormone health. Rather than looking at a single hormone in isolation, it evaluates patterns — how hormones are produced, metabolised, and cleared by your body.

This test can help us understand:

  • Cortisol patterns throughout the day and how your stress response is functioning

  • Oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone balance

  • How your body is metabolising and detoxifying hormones

  • Androgen patterns that may affect mood, skin, hair, and metabolic health

  • The interaction between stress hormones and sex hormones

By assessing rhythm and balance — not just levels — we can identify why you may be experiencing fatigue, mood instability, sleep disruption, weight changes, PMS, perimenopausal symptoms, or burnout.

DUTCH Sex Hormone Panel NZD 372.-

The DUTCH Sex Hormone panel focuses specifically on reproductive and sex hormones. It provides insight into how your body is producing and processing oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.

This test can help clarify:

  • Hormonal imbalances contributing to PMS, irregular cycles, heavy bleeding, or menopausal symptoms

  • Low libido, mood changes, or fatigue linked to sex hormone shifts

  • Testosterone patterns in both men and women

  • Oestrogen metabolism and how efficiently hormones are being cleared

GI360 – Comprehensive Gut Health Assessment NZD 808.-

The GI360 is an advanced stool test that gives us insight into how your digestive system and gut microbiome are functioning. It looks beyond simple symptoms to reveal patterns that can influence your overall health.

This test can help identify:

  • Gut microbiome imbalances — including harmful bacteria, beneficial bacteria, and overall diversity

  • Digestive efficiency — how well your body breaks down and absorbs fats, proteins, and carbohydrates

  • Gut inflammation — subtle signs that may contribute to bloating, discomfort, or systemic inflammation

  • Intestinal permeability (leaky gut) — which can affect immune function and overall wellness

  • Gut–brain interactions — how gut health may be impacting mood, focus, and cognitive function

Toxin Zoomer – Comprehensive Environmental Toxin Assessment (price on request due to exchange rate of USD)

The Toxin Zoomer is a test that helps us understand how everyday exposures to metals, mold toxins, chemicals, and PFAS may be affecting your health. It combines this with insight into your detoxification pathways, giving a clearer picture of how your body is processing environmental stressors.

This test can highlight:

  • Toxic load from metals, chemicals, and mold — identifying exposures that may contribute to fatigue, brain fog, or inflammation

  • Detoxification efficiency — how well your body metabolizes and clears toxins

  • Genetic factors affecting detox pathways — uncovering personal differences in susceptibility to environmental stressors

  • Impact on energy, mood, and metabolism — linking environmental pressures to symptoms and long-term resilience

Mosaic Mycotox Profile - Mould Toxin Assessment NZD 593.-

The MycoTOX Profile is an advanced urine test that screens for exposure to mould toxins (mycotoxins) produced by various species of fungi. It provides insight into how environmental mould exposure may be impacting your health at a deeper, systemic level.

This test can help identify:

  • Mycotoxin exposure — including toxins from Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, and Stachybotrys species

  • Hidden environmental burden — even when mould exposure is not obvious in your home or workplace

  • Detoxification capacity — how effectively your body is processing and eliminating these toxins

  • Immune and inflammatory responses — patterns that may contribute to fatigue, brain fog, respiratory symptoms, and chronic inflammation

  • Neurological and systemic effects — mycotoxins that can influence cognition, mood, and overall resilience

Markers

Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), Ochratoxin A (OTA), Gliotoxin (GTX), Sterigmatocystin (STG), Mycophenolic Acid (MPA), Roridin E, Verrucarin A, Enniatin B, Zearalenone (ZEA) B1, Chaetoglobosin A, Citrinin

Doctor's Data Hair Mineral Test NZD 196.-

The Hair Elements test is a specialised analysis that gives us insight into your long-term exposure to toxic metals and your overall mineral balance. It looks beyond short-term fluctuations in blood levels to reflect what is being stored and regulated in the body over time.

This test can help identify:

  • Toxic metal exposure — including mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and other environmental toxins that may accumulate and affect health

  • Mineral imbalances — key elements such as magnesium, zinc, calcium, and selenium that are essential for metabolic, neurological, and immune function

  • Detoxification capacity — patterns that may suggest how effectively your body is processing and eliminating toxins

  • Oxidative stress and cellular burden — which can influence energy production, inflammation, and long-term resilience

  • Nervous system and metabolic patterns — mineral ratios that can provide insight into stress physiology, adrenal function, and overall regulation

Frequently Asked Questions - Pricing & Availability

Are the test prices fixed?
The prices listed are correct as of April 2026. However, due to global supply and geopolitical factors, pricing and availability may change over time.

What do the test costs include?
The listed prices are for the laboratory tests themselves only.

My clinical time — including organising your tests, reviewing and interpreting your results in the context of your symptoms, and providing a personalised written plan — is charged separately.

How are interpretation fees structured?
To keep things fair when multiple tests are ordered, I use a tiered system:

  • 1 test: $150
  • 2 tests: $250 total (saving $50)
  • 3 tests: $350 total (saving $100)

This ensures you receive a comprehensive, integrated interpretation rather than isolated reports.

Can I discuss my results in a consultation?
Yes. If you are an existing patient, you can book a follow-up consultation to go through your results, ask questions, and clarify next steps.

  • Follow-up consultation: $172.50

Do I need to be a patient to order testing?
No. You are welcome to arrange testing prior to a full comprehensive assessment, although my fee for arranging and analyzing the specialized tests still applies. Blood tests are however considered part of the initial assessment.

If you choose to proceed, we can later integrate your results into a personalised plan tailored to your health goals.

These tests are most powerful when interpreted in the context of your overall health, symptoms, and goals — not in isolation.
